According to media sources, WhatsApp is working on an AI-powered picture editing tool that would let users change the backgrounds and styles of their images. It is also rumored to be working on a feature that will allow users to directly query the company’s “Meta AI” service from the search bar.

According to a feature tracker, WhatsApp is allegedly working on a feature that would let users alter their photos with an AI-powered editing tool. When it launches, this functionality should let users easily change things like the backdrop and style or even “enlarge” an image using artificial intelligence. The business is also developing a new feature that will allow customers to utilize the search bar to pose inquiries directly to the company’s “Meta AI” service.

The most recent WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.7.13 update has code for an AI-powered image editor, according to feature tracker WABetaInfo, which is renowned for discovering new features on the messaging app before they are released. This feature is still under development, however users who have enrolled in the app’s beta versions are not yet allowed to try it.

An early implementation of the feature can be seen in the WhatsApp for Android interface while transferring photographs, according to a snapshot released by WABetaInfo. When the green symbol in the top-left of the HD icon is tapped, three options become visible: Expand, Restyle, and Backdrop. The precise features of each option are yet unknown, though, as the feature is currently being developed.

Not only that, but the most recent WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.7.14 also has information about another feature that WABetaInfo uncovered. With this feature, users can ask questions of Meta AI—the company’s generative AI assistant for Meta products—by using the search bar at the top of the app. Meta AI is OpenAI’s ChatGPT’s competitor.

It’s crucial to remember that even after updating to the most recent version of the app, testing for these two features is still ongoing since they are still under development. After more tinkering and polishing, they should be made available to beta testers on the channel before being made generally available to all users. Furthermore, it is expected that similar functionalities would soon be accessible to iOS users as well, guaranteeing feature parity between the two mobile operating systems.
